Music for Arizona Aloha Festival 2024
Here are lyrics and chords for songs we're planning to perform.
Aunty Aloha's ʻUkulele Corner
Sam Kahalewai added to the record collection
The artists are Sam Kahalewai, Gabby Pahinui, Alvin Isaacs and Norman Isaacs. According to Bill Wynne's post in the Steel Guitar Forum, some of the songs have only been recorded here. There's some fine steel guitar work by Gabby.
Bill remarks that the recording may have been from 1961 and the label was from Kansas. The details from the record cover are "Recorded in Hawaii by Four Winds Recording and Publishing Company, Hutchinson, Kansas, RFD 3, 67501." Since the label has a ZIP code, we know the record cover was printed after July 1, 1963, when ZIP codes were introduced. Sam Kahalewai was buried in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1997 according to Find a Grave.
New licks added for He Manaʻo Koʻu Iā ʻOe
The chords are taken from the 1984 version by Benny Kalama on "(He Is Hawaiian Music)." It's credited to S. Hoopii, presumably Sol Hoʻopiʻi.
The new licks are inspired by this recording. According to the liner notes, the steel guitar player is "a new, young steel guitarist on the recording scene, Alan Akaka."
